Bongo knew it was just a matter of time before District 158's upcoming school board elections took center stage in the local newspapers. After all, a five-seat swing could take the district in a very different direction. Whether that direction will be good or bad remains to be seen.
With just a few days left until candidates' paperwork can be turned in, the Daily Herald has written a story about who is running, who is not, and who is undecided. According to Jameel, Tony Quagliano is not running for another term. This saddens Bongo, because he brings real value to the board and at times seemed like the only one who could call Snow out for his antics on the board. Remember a long time ago when when Quagliano was the treasurer of Snow's political action committee? It barked volumes when Quagliano abruptly resigned that position. The two have clashed on multiple occasions since that time. Just last week, at a committee of the whole meeting, Snow attacked Quagliano's character by suggesting that Quagliano didn't feel it was important to follow the law. But more about that later...
And now Quagliano isn't running? While not a district employee, could it be that Snow has run Quagliano off just like he has run off other assets to the district like Stacie Talbert?
But back to who is running... President Green said he is undecided, and Mike Skala and Kim Skaja said they would both seek another term on the board. Parent and FAC member Paul Troy is collecting signatures for a potential run, and while Grafton Township Trustee Rob LaPorta picked up a packet, he is on the ballot in the township for another term as a trustee. Jameel also spoke to Lake in the Hills resident Don Drzal who evidently had expressed an interest in running, but Drzal said he was "leaning against it."
But the "Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire" award in the article goes to Larry Snow, who said he was still undecided.
"I haven't focused any time or thought on it, to tell you the truth."
Really? Knowing what Bongo knows about Snow, Bongo would guess that Snow has thought of little else over the last several weeks or maybe even months.
Tuesday's filings should be very interesting. Several different scenarios could unfold. Will we have less than five candidates apply? Will Snow be one of five and just walk right back onto the board without facing any opposition whatsoever? Will he not run and leave his "wingman" Seedorf stranded up on the rail with no one to tell her how to do her job as a board member?
Time will tell, and Bongo will follow the filings closely.
