You know, Bongo has never been very good at running long distances. Two laps around the bark park and Bongo is panting wildly and has to take a nap.
So you can bet that Bongo was more than impressed when he learned that the Heineman Girls Cross Country team brought home the school's first ever state trophy with a 4th place finish on October 18th.
Before traveling to Normal, Illinois for the state meet, the girls captured the IESA Sectional Title in a meet that was held at Marlowe Middle School earlier this month. At that meet, Heineman's gals won the title out of a field of 13 teams and sent seven girls on to the state meet. The boys competed at the meet also, and sent two boys on to the state meet.
Twenty seven teams participated in the state Cross Country meet, and Heineman's athletes finished as follows:
Boys: Lucas Baker: 6th place, Trevor Obecny: 59th place
Girls: Delaney Loprieno: 21st place, Beth Parks: 22nd place, McKenna Moffett: 37th place, Ali Cazel: 68th place, Talor Schau: 99th place, Gabriella Scandurra: 101st place, and Morgan Mikulay: 181st place.
Way to go gals and guys, for a great finish to a great season, and for representing District 158 with pride! Of course, congratulations and thanks also go out to the coaches of these boys and girls.
