D 158 Seeks Parent Input for When Three Strike Days Should be Made Up

If you're a parent in District 158, Bongo assumes you got "the call" yesterday from Associate Superintendent Terry Awrey.

Mr. Awrey asked parents to go to the District 158 web site to fill out a survey about when the days missed during the strike should be made up. Click here to go to the survey page on the website, and then click on the "calendar modification survey" link in the green box.

Bongo looked at the survey, and quite honestly he didn't like any of the options. No, Bongo isn't interested in having his pups in school during the day in November during parent-teacher conferences and no, Bongo isn't interested in shortening Christmas break. Bongo is even less interested in making up the days in June.

What Bongo was interested in, was seeing the "none of the above" option, which wasn't available. Because correct Bongo if he's wrong, but the pups were out of school for three days for one reason: because their teachers made a conscious decision to refuse to teach on those days.

Bongo,

Please be fair. The survey gives parents the opportunity to comment rather than choosing one of the pre-determined options. I was very impressed that the administration is giving parents the opportunity to share their thoughts on the issue. I'd like to take credit for the idea of including parents in the decision making process, but the credit goes to Dr. Burkey.
A logical choice is to replace all of the days prior to the end of the school year so the AP students can have more class and study time prior to taking their AP exams. It will be interesting to see what the parents and students choose.
