Well it sure looks like Bongo isn't going to be hurting for material to write about for a while... Thanks to the HEA's ongoing belief that District 158 has a money tree somewhere behind the administration building, it appears that the local newspapers will be devoting a lot of ink to the strike issue until it is resolved.
The image above is a scan of an editorial from the big dogs at the Northwest Herald which was published in today's paper. Click on it to make it easier to read. There are a few highlights:
"Perhaps union leaders do not realize it, but we are in a sluggish economy. And we are in one of the worst housing markets in decades. Most people would be thrilled with raises that were guaranteed to keep pace and even surpass inflation."
Bongo gives four paws up to that comment given the fact that Bongo received a 0% raise this year, Mrs. Bongo received a 0% raise this year and we were both glad we weren't part of the group of people at our respective offices that were let go this year.
The other highlights were the NWH big dogs' attempts to help the union come up with slogans for their picketing signs...
"Hey, yo, our raises are too low!"
and "They have the money, give it to us!"
Those two slogans made Bongo howl.
But in all honesty, I think the union is overestimating the support they will receive from cash-strapped parents if they go on strike.
Bongo wants to know where he can go sign up for a 4.25% raise this year and guaranteed raises that surpass the rate of inflation for the next few years! Sign me up!
Oh yeah, and the Northwest Herald updated yesterday's story about the announcement of the intent to strike notice. You can read the updated story here.
