Highlights of the BOE's Final Proposal to the HEA

Bongo's just going to say it:

If the teachers don't take this offer and thank the district for its generosity, they're crazier than the dog who passes up a 32 oz. steak.

You can read the highlights of the offer here, and you can read salary highlights here.

For those of you who love to read legalese, here is the entire proposal.

Still think the District "refused to negotiate"? I'm thinking that Larry Snow's peeps in Sun City will be ready to lynch him when they read the offer!

Remember, the initial offer was 4.25%, and CPI plus .25% in years 2,3 and 4. It's now over 5% in the first year, steps remaining, a shorter school year, with CPI plus .65% in years 2,3, and 4, increases to medical insurance, financial rewards for Nationally Certified teachers, and more.

Maybe the HEA leadership needs to pull out their doggie dictionary and look up the word NEGOTIATE.

Bongo will close with this: Bongo has felt all along that teachers were underpaid, and if District 158 can afford this package without dipping into its fund balances, Bongo says "DO IT!"

I also read that the teachers work load has been decreased by one day to 182 days, but the compensation has remained the same (actually gone up on this final offer). That's a neat little wrinkle as well, plus the $500 "exceptional merits" stipend (though I see no guidelines for awarding it).
