What's better than a double dip? Nothing, if you ask Mark Stahl, the guy who is calling the shots for the HEA.
The newest proposal includes a gem of a deal for teachers, or at least the 2-3% of them where their spouses are also teachers in D 158. Did Bongo mention that Mark Stahl's wife is also a D 158 teacher?
Bongo has been barking for a while that the union membership at large should be paying attention to the fact that their leadership is not representing them with integrity. They seem to be more interested in representing themselves.
Remember the initial proposal which included a provision where kindergarten teachers would get one day per week of one hour uninterrupted plan period? The provision only related to kindergarten teachers (Christy Henderson, HEA leader, teaches kindergarten at Chesak).
Well, anyway, Bongo did a double-take at the double-dip provision that would benefit the Stahl family and only a few other teachers.
Aren't the HEA leaders supposed to be negotiating on behalf of ALL the teachers?
Here is a link to the HEA counterproposal; the double-dip provision can be found on page 8, about 2/3 down the page as #4 under Medical Insurance:
"Married couples working in the District who are eligible for medical and dental benefits will be eligible for dual coverage. One spouse will elect family coverage. The Board of Education will contribute the family contribution equal to seven hundred dollars ($700.00) per month per employee, for a total of fourteen hundred dollars ($1,400.00)."
Say what?
Like Bongo said, there's nothing better than a double-dip. Too bad only a select few teachers would have access to that tasty treat of a deal.
