A five-hour negotiation meeting on Sunday produced a big goose egg for results. Here's the story from today's Northwest Herald.
The Daily Herald's story ran on Tuesday. Here it is.
For the first time, some details are emerging about just how far apart the two sides are. According to the story, the HEA is demanding $4.25 million in additional salary and benefits over the length of the contract.
The funniest quote in the story came from the union side in a press release:
"To date, the Board of Education has refused to move from their position in the 'Last, Best and Final' offer, despite of the union membership's overwhelming rejection of the offer."
Ummm, does Bongo need to get out the doggie dictionary again? Hey Stahl, Hunter and Crowe... It was a LAST, BEST, and FINAL offer. What did you expect?
At this stage of the game, the union should be taking the existing pot of money and moving it around to the areas that are priorities for them.
When will they open their eyes and see that NO ONE is on their side on this one? Not the media, not the district's non-HEA hourly employees (who would have DEVASTATING hourly pay consequences if the HEA were to strike) and most certainly not the parents and other taxpayers!
