Working Hard (or Hardly Working) on District 158 Committees

This agenda is typical of the seriousness with which the board members take their committee assignments.

For this month's Committee of the Whole meeting, Shawn Green had a full agenda for the Education Committee, Mike Skala had plenty to talk about with regard to his Human Resources Committee, and Kim Skaja had several policies she wanted to have reviewed by her Policy Committee.

Larry Snow’s Legislative Committee? Nothing.

Aileen Seedorf’s Community Relations Committee? Nada. Zilch.

The Building Committee and the Finance Committee will meet next week on May 8, and you can bet Kevin Gentry (Building Committee) and Tony Quagliano (Finance Committee) will have full agendas to discuss.

In the past, Snow has been first in line to criticize the legislative work done by Representative Tryon, Senator Althoff, and even citizen volunteers right here in District 158. Yet now that he has a legislative committee, he’s quiet as a sleeping dog. It’s one more glaring example of how he’s quick to complain and point fingers, yet incapable of making meaningful suggestions for positive change.

And Seedorf, who promised us all better transparency and communication, has shown a constant disinterest in anything that would better connect the parents and community members with the goings-on in District 158. She’s been all bark and no bite when it comes to following through with her promises.

Neither Snow nor Seedorf seem to realize that committees are the vehicles which drive all progress in District 158. Simply showing up to board meetings and complaining does nothing to move the district forward in a positive way.
