Bongo loves teachers. He thinks they work really hard and are for the most part underpaid given the responsibility they have with kids’ futures.
But this week something caught Bongo by surprise. District 158’s union co-president Christy Henderson said two different things to two different reporters about the upcoming teacher negotiations and whether or not they should be held in public.
On February 2nd, Northwest Herald reporter Tom Musick wrote this after interviewing Henderson:
Board President Shawn Green, who along with Seedorf comprises the board’s negotiating team, said he mentioned the idea of bargaining in open session to teachers union representatives in December. Earlier this week, Henderson said she was not aware of the board’s idea and wanted to learn more about it before responding.
Then on February 5th, Daily Herald reporter Jameel Naqvi wrote this after interviewing Henderson:
Henderson said the district told her about the idea before it was publicized. She didn't raise any issues with the fact that it was publicized.
Why would she tell one reporter one thing and another reporter the opposite? It wasn’t a difficult question. She was either told about the idea of open negotiations before it hit the newspapers or she wasn’t. Seems like Mrs. Henderson really stepped in some doo doo this time.
Don’t the dedicated and hard working teachers of District 158 deserve union leadership that can tell a straight story?
